Victor Ambros and Gary Ruvkun are the 99th and 100th Canada Canada Gairdner laureates to win the Nobel Prize
We are excited to announce that Victor Ambros and Gary Ruvkun have been awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, "for the discovery of microRNA and its role in post-transcriptional gene regulation".
This remarkable achievement marks a historic milestone for the Gairdner Foundation, as Drs. Ambros and Ruvkun become the 99th and 100th Canada Gairdner Award laureates to receive the Nobel Prize.
Drs. Ambros and Ruvkun previously received the Canada Gairdner International Award in 2008 for the discovery and characterization of micro RNAs, important in the regulation of gene function. Today, they join an exceptional group of scientists recognized by both the Gairdner Foundation and the Nobel Committee for their lasting impact on human health.
